Pokédex Entries

The roar of an Arcanine that has undergone Mega Evolution is said to be so mighty that it literally shakes the soul. Rulers in ancient times used statues of this Pokémon to ward off evil and intimidate everyone else.

A cleansing, purifying flame is said to burn within the orb it carries. When this Pokémon roars, the flame surges out and anything it deems unworthy is burned to ash.

Shikaizar/Mega Arcanine 1.0 (2009)
'Shikaizar' was originally a Fire/Ghost alternate Growlithe evo created for a King's Rock evolution design contest on DeviantArt. Later I reused the art for the Fire/Dragon Mega Arcanine, and while I can see how it looks kinda dragonish (but hardly anything to do with Arcanine's actual concept...), I have no idea why I thought this design worked for a Ghost-type.
Mega Arcanine 2.0 (2019)
Now with a new concept and a design that actually takes that concept into account. It's inspired by guardian lion/shisa statues now, something actually associated with Arcanine. Given that Pokémon like Altaria exist, it doesn't really need horns or a tapering tail to be a 'dragon'.
