Flavor Info

Pokédex Entries

Cragendou can scale mountains with ease, but they prefer curling up and rolling to get back down. The spines can snap off as the Pokémon rolls, but they grow back over time.

When battling in the mountains, Cragendou will brace themselves using their prehensile tails. This helps them hold their ground as they kick rocks down at their opponents.

Design History

(click thumbnail to enlarge.)

Cragendou 1.0 (c. 2009)
Unlike the original mostly-smooth Gravendou, Cragendou had way too many spines, and the design was too busy as a result.
Cragendou 1.5 (2013)
This artwork was never finished, which is why there's no shading. It was definitely less busy than the original, and the rows of black spines were a neat touch, but I decided to try something different in the end.
Cragendou 2.0 (2015)
The spines are again much simplified here, the face has a little more character to it, and the legs are shorter since I decided I wanted these guys to be pretty squat. If I do ever revamp them again, I might go back to trying spines closer to the 1.5 version, though, or at least try a bit more contrast on the darker 'collar' spines.
