Flavor Info

Pokédex Entries

Luvaris directs its pack of Lamlie and Lobovo to infiltrate Mareep herds. Luvaris will lead the herd's Ramfere away, posing as a rival, before turning on them in a surprise attack.

Luvaris have adapted over many years to mimic Ramfere as closely as possible. There are reports of Luvaris that look like Ampharos, but so far they have proven difficult to find and study.

Design History

(click thumbnail to enlarge.)

Luvaris 1.0 (c. 2010)
Aside from the style really showing its age here, the pose is just incredibly dull. Luvaris was originally a Ground/Fighting-type, so why doesn't it act more like one? Also I'm not sure why it doesn't have pupils.
Luvaris 2.0 (2016)
I'd wanted to update the entire line at this point, but Luvaris's art was the most pressingly dull so I focused on that one. It's got general style updates and a more active pose, more specifically one that seems appropriate for a Fighting-type (which it still was at the time).
Luvaris 3.0 (2024)
While Luvaris 2.0's quality was acceptable, the whole Lamlie line was being updated to look more like what they were mimicking (including in pose), so this needed to change to match the new Ramfere art, with some added sneakiness to go with its new Dark type. It also got a new shiny that references Mega Ampharos.
