News and Updates
Posted on: 2013/11/23And hopefully it'll be the last one for a long while. Everything's set up over here if you can see this message, so that's that! Now back to figuring out all these Gen VI changes...
Posted on: 2013/11/19Nothing terribly new just yet (though some big changes are in the pipeline), just a quick announcement that I'll be moving servers again very soon. Hopefully this'll be the last one for a good, long while! The domain and everything will be the same, but the site may be down for a little while sometime in the next few days (probably around Friday but as early as tomorrow evening, depending on how much I can get done). Sorry for any inconvenience!

- Previews page updated (Ascaleius, Bitemare)
- Category New Logoran Characters and pages List of New Logoran Characters and The Neptunes added/revealed
- First New Logoran storyline piece added: Help Wanted
- "Wicked Fangs" ability removed
- Accolanto Pokédex now following Gen II's "New Pokédex" instead of Kanto Pokédex; several fakemon re-numbered accordingly
- "Big Project" finally finished: Pokémon Turquoise forum RPG
- Fakemon Concepts and Ideas list published
Trying something a little different: a summary of all the major changes placed right up front in the update, so you don't have to dig through my rambling self-deprecation to figure out what's actually different around here.
With that out of the way, allow me to offer a fantastically late and completely insufficient apology for not mentioning that the "Big Project" was finally completed... back in June. How on earth I managed to not update here with that information, well, I couldn't even begin to tell you. (I have been busy with a new job that started around the same time as its release and I don't have a ton of free time thanks to the commute, but seriously, self, it's not that hard to type up a link and a few sentences. Not cool. Not cool at all.) But it is done, and it's over here: Pokémon Turquoise, a forum-based RPG a few friends and I put together. You can explore the New Logora region, catch its Pokémon, interact with its trainers and, with a little luck and hopefully not too many casualties, figure out just what's going on with all this Tanoby Unown nonsense. Faelan and Accolanto are not currently accessible in the RPG and likely won't be for a while, but we are hoping to resume development on the other admins' regions and will be looking for some community involvement with that soon!
Note that, due to some differences between Turquoise and the Phoenixdex, this wiki is actually not a good reference to use if you need information while playing the game. Instead you want the TurquoiseDex Wiki, which has been modified to take those differences into account (a different TM list, for example). It also has several guides that will help you find your way around the game, so give it a read if you're interested.
As mentioned above, pages detailing the beginning of the "canon" storyline and preliminary character descriptions have now been made available for New Logora; check the New Logora page to see them, or, in the case of the characters, you can use the link in the introductory table up at the top of the home page. Major characters (gym leaders, etc.) will eventually receive their own individual pages with artwork and additional information.
In terms of Pokémon-related changes: I don't have any new Pokémon ready at the moment, but as seen in the update summary there are several artwork revamps and new moves. There are some new faces up on the Previews page, though: they were teased on my Tumblr already, but hopefully they're still enticing enough to peek at until I can get my act together and finish the necessary art, moves, etc. for their lines. Job, some other commitments and X and Y permitting, there should hopefully be at least one of those new Pokémon, along with several others not yet teased, new moves and more ready to go soonish.
...and with that we get to the big question that is probably on many of your minds: what is the Phoenixdex going to do about Generation VI? The second answer to that question (the first being "play them until my thumbs are bleeding
you'll never see me again bye") is that I'll be embracing it whole-heartedly. There will be mega evolutions, there will be Fairy-types (and some older fakemon will be converted into Fairy-types, details TBD), there will be... a lot of stuff! That stuff just won't be here right away. X and Y are still very, very new, and as I have the misfortune of having ordered my copies from a retailer that actually respects the street date I have not been able to play at all yet, let alone find out everything I want to know. I don't want to officially create any Fairy-types until I know which canon Pokémon learn which Fairy moves at what levels, so I can compare with my own ideas; I don't want to get invested in any megavolutions until I understand the story behind them, since apparently that's a huge chunk of X and Y's plot. I need to see what the TM and tutor lists are like. I need to figure out how I want to display information on megavolutions, and how I want to display all of the Pokémon's information in general (likely on separate "Gen V" and "Gen VI" tabs on their pages since I don't want to just throw out all the Gen V work I did). The news and info sites are gathering information as quickly as they can, but it isn't all there yet and I don't feel comfortable acting until some more things are concrete. Hang tight—I'm eager to get started on this, and I will as soon as I have half an idea what to do with it all!
At the very least, though, I can guarantee that Mega Ramfere will be a thing. One way or another, it will be a thing.(PS: Those of you who follow the IdeaDex Tumblr might already know this, but I finally published my ungodly hueg list of potential fakemon concepts and it's free for anyone to browse for ideas. It's right here, or over on the sidebar under "Guides and Articles".)

It's birthday time again! The Phoenixdex turns three today, and as is customary (or as is supposed to be customary, anyway) I am now going to shower it with updates and goodies that you can see with your eyeballs. These updates are sadly not quite as major as last year's brand new region (I do have others planned, natch, but they're nowhere near ready yet), and in fact because I am a lazy bum some of them are actually stuff I had intended to post months ago, buuuut I've been busy and distracted and et cetera and something is better than nothing, okay >(
First of all, I've revamped a few (of an ever-increasing list sob) Pokémon who needed it pretty desperately for one reason or another: Kizziff, Murgaz, Chaszin and Jackravage. Jackravage is just a stylistic/quality/awkward pose update, but the Kizziff line has been totally redesigned so they actually look at least a tiny bit like what they're supposed to be, and also a little less samey to boot. Then we have the new lines I've been sitting on for a while, all of which were teased on my Tumblr in December but we all know how long it takes me to finish art and stuff. Robonbo, Robutane, Cessmer and Mesmire have all been added to Accolanto, and fancy new Basculin evo Siamacho has been added to... well... nowhere yet. It's currently chilling with Currarog on the Extra Fakemon list; we'll see where it ends up. ;)
Cessmer and Mesmire also come with two new abilities, the confusion-enhancing Bewilder and the obligatory-speed-doubler-to-go-with-the-new-weather-I-added Gas Guzzler; for more information about said new weather you can check out its entry on the New Mechanics page. I also tossed in two more abilities, Draft Rider and Streamlined, which have been retconned onto a few things (such as Veloswift and Turumaken) and should be appearing on a few more sometime soon. Two new moves were added as well, Diamond Claw and Tsunami Rush, with Diamond Claw hopefully marking the for real this time end of the TM list changes—it's taking Boulder Crash's spot at 134. Some other move and ability tweaks happened but they're minor so I won't bother enumerating them for now.
Now for something a bit more exciting, maybe! I have, as you might be able to guess based on all the empty dex slots in Faelan and Accolanto and the promise of several more regions to come, about seventy-eleven bajillion fakemon ideas. Most of these fakemon ideas are noted on a super long list I've been adding to steadily over the years. This list is ungodly long and shows no signs of getting any shorter; even with the ample room I have planned in most of my projects there is no way in hell I'll be able to get through the whole thing. And heck, even if I did somehow manage to use all those ideas in some capacity, they're really cool ideas and there are a lot of ways to interpret them! It'd be a shame not to see how other people would approach them, wouldn't it?
To that end I have decided to make that list public, at least in spirit, in the form of the IdeaDex Tumblr (also linked in the side nav for your convenience). It's an "inspiration blog" to which I will be posting/reblogging all the ridiculous crap that sparks fakemon ideas, and while it's currently a touch empty and the initial subject matter will be a touch restricted my hope is that it will eventually showcase a wide range of potential concepts. I'm hoping this blog will prove inspirational to more than just me! (The aforementioned list itself is not currently available because in its current state it is an unholy mess and I'd like to organize it first.)
I was hoping to have some news about the Big Project, or at least a slightly more interesting set of fakemon reveals + other information, ready for today as well, but, alas, it was not to be. Soon, though!... whatever "soon" is worth coming from me.Happy birthday, my ridiculous pet project. Your gift update isn't as big as I would've liked, but at least it was on time this year! First birthday I forgot entirely, second was late and rushed and unfinished, third is lackluster and maybe a little rushed but actually timely... I think I'm getting better at this! Kind of!

...so that's why it's been pretty quiet lately. I have done a few things here and there, and some were even done a while ago, but I didn't post about them because I was busy. I was also hoping I'd be able to update several things at once, but since some of those things are taking longer than others... bah. Might as well stop stalling and go over what has been done.
The largest change of note—and those of you who've seen my Tumblr presumably already know about this—is that New Logora's grass starters, Acafia, Catalcia and Bossorna, have been overhauled something fierce. The design change does a lot to fix some stuff about their movepools I wasn't thrilled with, and in general the artwork is of a much better quality now. I've also gone and added a bunch of held items to various Pokémon as well. There are a few new moves, namely Acid Rain, Ear Splitter, Psych Out and Quicksand, most created or introduced after I shuffled the TM list around for what is hopefully the last time; I also tweaked the names and effects of a few other moves, and may have made other small miscellaneous changes to stats/movesets, moves, abilities and items that I can't remember anymore.
Pathos, who needs to stop spoiling me with this stuff good god, has also made an awesome piece of Luvaris fanart.
Assuming I can get back on track with the project soonish (and that either the new Fire Emblem game is still delayed or it isn't but I have enough self-restraint to wait before playing it), the unfinished fakemon that've been sitting in Photoshop for weeks will be tidied up and posted tomorrow. If not, hopefully soon!
