Flavor Info

Pokédex Entries

Transmite compensates for poor eyesight with its other, more powerful senses. It can track the bioelectricity in other creatures and identify small, fast-moving targets, such as tasty insects.

Transmite's ability to communicate through small electrical pulses is under active study. People use this Pokémon to guide them through dark places or to help with visual impairment.

Additional Info

Recent research into methods for aiding the visually-impaired have shown that Transmite can be trained to transmit special electrical signals to a person's brain, improving their ability to detect and interpret their surroundings. Most of these tests have been very successful, and Transmite are often seen as guide Pokémon (alongside certain Psychic-types and several others).

(Note: Transmite sending electrical signals that a person's brain can interpret as shapes/movement is actually (very) loosely based on a real technique for helping the visually-impaired "see", albeit a less-refined version of that technique that I can no longer find a link to.)

Design History

(click thumbnail to enlarge.)

Transmite 1.0 (2010)
Transmite was originally a small, relatively weak single-stage Pokémon. The design was all right, but the proportions were off, and the wings' attempt to look like 'electricity' actually just made them look kind of ragged.
Transmite 2.0 (2024)
When I decided to expand Transmite out into a three-stage line, I took the opportunity to clean it up and simplify it a little. It still has a bit of zig-zagginess to it that looks appropriate for an Electric-type, but avoids looking as tattered as the old one.
