Takhampos are renowned as some of the most powerful swimmers among Pokémon. Their speed and incredible endurance allow them to travel at over 50 knots across respectable distances.

Takhampos prefer to avoid confrontation, swimming away or simply disappearing whenever they are disturbed. Entire herds seem to vanish into the ocean when they are approached by ships.

Name Origin

Takhi, another name for the Przewalski's horse + hippocampus

Design History

(click thumbnail to enlarge.)

Takhampos 1.0 (c. 2009)
The original Takhampos is based on a little-known mythical 'sea horse' called a campchurch, which, unlike a typical hippocampus, has proper legs (but with fins for feet). It was technically 'different' as far as inspiration goes, but didn't actually help when it came to standing out from something like Rapidash.
Takhampos 2.0 (2017)
The 'more common' hippocampus design ended up producing a more interesting-looking Pokémon. The angular, shark-like shapes are also more distinctive.
