Pokédex Entries

Mandicore's hunting prowess has earned it a strong cultural association with death. It's said that the Grim Reaper's scythe blade is made from the jaw of a Mandicore.

Mandicore run so quickly that their brains can't process what's around them while they move. They collide with targets jaws-first and bite before they even see what they've hit.

Name Origin

mandible + Manticora, a genus of tiger beetle

Design History

Mandicore 1.0 (c. 2009)
Mandicore was intended to function similarly to Bug-types like Scyther, Pinsir, and Heracross, so it's a little weird that I made it a hexapod quadruped. It's also not very exciting as a design; it's mostly just a tall cartoon tiger beetle. I'm sure it would be terrifying if this thing chased me through the desert, but it'd also just be... kinda goofy.
Mandicore 2.0 (2022)
This version is bipedal like the bugs it's supposed to be similar to, uses brighter, more interesting colors and shapes, and has a more active and menacing stance to boot.
