Larvill are born with a strange, symbiotic algae growing in their bodies. If they live in fresh water with lots of sunlight, the algae helps them develop quickly. Living in a dark place, however, will starve the algae and force the Larvill to develop more slowly and on their own.

Larvill are social Pokémon that are born in large groups and normally feel safest around lots of friends. Some bold Larvill swim off to investigate dark caves and never come back, although if they survive that environment they can live for a very long time.
